Location

SUTTON SCARSDALE

Sutton Scarsdale is a peaceful village in the rolling countryside to the south of Chesterfield. In many ways you have the best of all worlds while you are there. Chesterfield with its famous Crooked Spire church, colourful market square and all the facilities of a local town is just a ten-minute drive. The Peak District starts on the edge of the town and you can soon be in Bakewell, visiting Chatsworth House or exploring the picturesque villages and countryside.

Places like Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Bakewell are really well known but there are lots of other visitor attractions such as the National Tramway Museum, the National Stone Centre, Carsington Water and the Heights of Abraham. Then of course there is Peak Rail’s steam trains, Castleton’s Caverns, Sudbury Childhood Museum, Kedleston Hall and Calke Abbey.

Turn the other way and the famous Dukeries area of Nottinghamshire is there in front of you. Renishaw Hall, gardens and vineyard are well worth a visit. Hardwick Hall is a wonderful Elizabethan house created by Bess of Hardwick in the 1500’s. Or how about exploring Clumber Park, Bolsover Castle or joining Robin Hood’s Merry men in Sherwood Forest. All of them are really good days out.

Local pubs: The Elm Tree in Heath,The Hardwick Inn, Hardwick, The Devonshire Arms, Langwith and the Horse and Groom, Scarcliffe.
