Description

Llamedos is a lovely 17 century cottage, restored to a high standard and located in picturesque Castleton in the midst of the Peak District. The cottage's spacious accommodation combines beamed ceilings and other traditional features with more modern facilities. Add its location, in a quiet corner of the village just off the green, to make this a very rare find.

Castleton is a beautiful village, gathered around the church and green and set in a magnificent cauldron of hills. It is also a very interesting village with 'country' shops to browse around, the famous Blue John caverns to explore, Peveril Castle to storm and many a pub and restaurant to visit after a hard day’s walking.

How about climbing to the top of Mam Tor to marvel at the views, exploring rugged Edale, or venturing out along the Pennine Way. On more restful days, visit Tideswell with its well dressings, the 'Dambusters' Derwent Valley dams or Victorian Buxton. Children will treasure memories of the 'dares' they gave each other in Chatsworth's adventure playground, the exciting underground boating experience in Speedwell Cavern and the wonderful owls and otters in the nearby Chestnut wildlife sanctuary.

Reviews

Beautiful and spacious cottage with parking, in the centre of Castleton. The parking space was ample for one car of any size, but we struggled with access angles when our two medium sized cars were together. However, it was very gratefully received. The cottage living room is something of a 70s shrine, but was a cosy and comfortable space to return to, on every occasion. The heating was excellent and we liked the open plan feel of downstairs and the two bathrooms, upstairs. We all found the stairs quite steep, however. The kitchen is lovely and well equipped, but lacking a dishwasher. However, a good sink and racks and a lovely view, helped the dishwasing situation. The welcome pack was tremendous and the whole place was very homely. We felt genuinely welcomed and our neighbour from the geen painted house, next door, added to these feelings. For value for money and private parking space, I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage. However, in warmer weather, lack of private outdoor space, might be more keenly felt.

Mrs M,

Lovely cottage, cosy and well equipped.

Mrs P,

A very nice cottage in a great location with the owners quick to respond to any queries. Would happily rent again should I need a similar property.

Mr R,

This is a lovely cottage and in the best ever position in Castleton. We have stayed in many Castleton cottages and this is the best situated one. It is however quite dated although comfortable.

Mrs S,

Great comfortable, spacious, warm cottage in a fantastic location near the local pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Mr M,

A lovely place to stay, location is fantastic particularly having parking. Everything we needed was there. Great walks from the door and caverns within walking distance too. For a central village property still had nice views and was quiet as no traffic going past as on private driveway.

Mrs H,

Llamedos is clean, cosy and comfortable, well appointed and perfectly situated for exploring the area. We booked after friends recommended it and found that it suited the needs of two independant 60 something women very well.

Ms D,

Comfortable and spacious cottage in an excellent location in the heart of Castleton. Really nice to have allocated parking, which allowed us to leave the car and walk from the doorstep. Allowed for a very relaxing weekend.

Miss M,

Very well situated in Castleton with private parking which was a priority for us. Can do lots of walks from the property and plenty of places to eat nearby.

Mrs S,

Lovely cottage every thing you needed was there a real home from home. Walks on your door step so beautiful. The lady next-door was very friendly we apsalutly loved it Thank you

Mrs C,

Over the years I have stayed in many cottages in Castleton. Most of them have been very good but Llamedos cottage was absolutely excellent. Will book again.

Mr M,

Location

CASTLETON

Castleton is a very popular village at the head of the Hope Valley with a very good range of shops, pubs and restaurants.  It is guarded by Peveril Castle standing proud above the village and the famous ‘Blue John’ Caverns can be found in the hillside. It is the only place in the world where the semi-precious ‘Blue John’ stone is found and still mined. Set in a cauldron of hills the drive up Winnat’s Pass is exciting and the view from the top of Mam Tor (the Shivering Mountain) is amazing.

If you drop down from Mam Tor you are soon in Edale, which is a lovely little village in its own wild valley, that has won awards as one of the best villages in the country. It is also at the start of the Pennine Way long distance footpath that quickly takes you up on to the high moorlands of Kinder Scout. You need to be a hardened walker to venture up on to the moorland but if you do you can see the Kinder Downfall where the water really does flow up hill and, if you are lucky, you might also spot one of the rare White Hares.

Hope and Hathersage are along the main Hope Valley and are other great villages to explore with a range of local shops, pubs and restaurants. David Mellor’s Round Building cutlery factory, kitchen shop and café on the edge of Hathersage is one of our real favourites and an absolute must for you to visit. And then you might also like to hop on to a train for a day out in Sheffield or Manchester.

Local pubs: The Castle, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese and the Bulls Head Hotel in Castleton.
