Reviews

A very warm welcome to this property by the lovely owner. Beautifully converted barn with everything you could possibly need. Situated with lovely views over the Peak District but close to superstores for groceries. Chose this location for places we wanted to visit. Would not hesitate in recommending this barn for a stay and hope to return next year again.

Mrs P,

My friends and I had a great holiday in very well appointed accommodation. Everything we needed was provided and we were extremely comfortable. We would all recommend Churn Barn without reservation.

Mr N,

Very roomy cottage, well equipped and in a great location to explore the Peak District and Kinder Scout in particular. The games room with snooker table, table tennis and table football was really welcome. There are several walks straight from the cottage. The owner was very welcoming and we really enjoyed our stay.

Mr S,

We enjoyed a great stay at Churn Barn at the end of August 2024 to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary with our family. The accommodation slept 8 comfortably and is in a fantastic location for walking. We ate at the Old Hall Inn nearby and it was excellent. We also had a great BBQ and cooked pizzas on our own portable oven in the garden. We enjoyed having the games room and plenty of room to spread out too. Owner Stacey was very friendly and helpful. When I mentioned that we planned to have a family BBQ she generously provided a new one so we didn't have to bring our own. We would certainly recommend Churn Barn for a family get-together like ours.

Mr W,

Good property for family get together or friends who want to get together. Owner was helpful and took care to make sure we were ok and understood all that was available to enjoy in the area.

Mrs J,

Great holiday; lovely place to stay for a family celebration.

Mrs G,

Location

CHINLEY

Chinley is a large village surrounded by dramatic Dark Peak countryside views taking in acres of moorland.  Originally part of the Royal Forest of the Peak, Chinley came into its own when the railway was introduced in 1867.  Chinley still has easy rail access to both Sheffield and Manchester, ideal for a day out.

Closer to home is the town of Castleton, home to the famous Derbyshire Blue John stone, where you can visit the caverns where it has been mined for generations and perhaps take home a piece of jewellery as a gift or souvenir.

Also nearby is Kinder Scout, the highest point of the Peak District at 636m above sea level.  It is accessible from the pretty villages of Hayfield and Edale but the summit is for serious hikers only and be aware of the local weather forecast before setting out.  Kinder Scout was the setting of the 1932 Mass Trespass which paved the way for the establishment of National Parks, long-distance footpaths and walkers’ rights to roam on common land.

As you would expect from a large village, Chinley has a good range of shops (including Post Office, chemist and convenience store) and eateries and is the ideal place to base yourself for Peak District walks and outdoor activities.

Local Pubs: The Lamb Inn, Chinley; The Old Hall Inn, Whitehough.
