Reviews

Wow, what a perfect cottage for our Christmas 2024 stay. It was absolutely perfect and everything we wished for. It was so cozy while at the same time being super spacious, especially the bedroom and bathroom. Every detail had been thought of, including the lovely Christmas tree and decorations (thanks Joy!). The kitchen was also very well equipped and the large range double oven was perfect for cooking our Christmas dinner. The location is so idyllic. Lovely and quiet in a very nice village while being well positioned for visits to Bakewell, Castleton. Had we been there longer we would have explored even further - but time just went too quickly. The friendly sheep (for a sheep lover) was the added bonus of the location of this property - I loved saying good morning to them every day. I cannot praise this cottage more and can't wait to return - looking at the visitors book I can see why people do return every year for many years this is a wonderful spot. Thank you Joy and John for creating a piece of heaven in the Peak District.

Mrs A,

Many thanks to Joy and John who were perfect hosts. Very cosy cottage with plenty of space, very well equipped in a good location.

Mrs S,

This cottage was fantastic with everything you could want for a lovely stay in Derbyshire. The owners were really helpful and friendly. The location was great with a bus to Buxton and Bakewell

Mrs B,

A lovely, well equipped cottage in the heart of the Peaks. close to Bakewell which is well worth visiting , make sure you visit the Original Pudding Shop and indulge. The cottage has all that you will need for a very comfy stay and the outside terrace overlooks the sheep who are very friendly and chatty. Ashford-in-the-water is a must see and only minutes down the road and the Ashford Arms for a meal is also a must.

Mrs W,

We were overwhelmed by the cottage. On first entering we were surprised at how spacious it was. It was excellently furnished and a great deal of thought had gone into equipping the cottage. There was everything we could have wanted - and more! Even a teapot! The location was peaceful and the hosts friendly and helpful. Thank you for making our holiday memorable and enjoyable!

Mrs D,

This property is exceptionally well-presented, clean, classy and comfortable and set in a peaceful countryside location. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and at ease. After travelling over several years to cottages and farmstays in England, we rate this cottage among the very best of them.

Ms P,

We had a wonderful stay at the church view cottage in Taddington. The landlords are really nice people and the cottage was peaceful, with quiet neighbors, including the sheeps in the field close to there. We spend xmas at the cottage and J. nicely had made the cottage christmassy. We had everything we needed there in a not that small space, it's actually well enough for a couple of people. The bathroom is just great, the bed very comfortable, everything was just beautiful, cozy, convenient. We'd deffo stay there again. The area is amazing and Derby, Nottingham, Manchester, Sheffield and Chesterfield are quite close ! A lot of good walks to do in the area, the moors are super beautiful to see and there are a lot of great landmarks in the area. Go ahead and book, you won't be disappointed.

Mrs D,

I highly recommend this lovely and beautifully appointed cottage. The hosts are lovely & the sheep out the back door add a special touch. The location is so convenient for walks, the Monsal trail & several really good pubs. We plan to stay here again.

Mrs H,

Location

Buxton

Elegant, historic Buxton has been welcoming visitors to enjoy its natural thermal springs and superb setting, 300 metres above sea level, since Roman times and is the highest Market Town in England!

Known then as Aquae Arnemetiae, or the Spa of the Goddess of the Grove, its fortunes are currently reviving thanks to the restoration of its Grade 1 Listed centrepiece, The Crescent, as a five-star hotel and spa. Now open, the town’s famous thermal water, which rises from the earth at a constant temperature of 28 degrees C (82 degrees F), will be used again for spa treatments for the first time in decades, bringing a new life and new vitality to this already thriving and beautiful town.

Another masterpiece is the exquisite Edwardian Opera House, home of the internationally renowned Buxton Festival and host of other festivals, theatre, music and comedy shows throughout the year. Close by is the historic Old Hall Hotel, where ill-fated Mary Queen of Scots was held captive in the 16th Century. Just a short walk away can be found the mysterious Poole’s Cavern, known to be one of the best caverns for its wonderful tour and best showing stalactites and stalagmites in the whole of Derbyshire!

The beautifully landscaped and restored Pavilion Gardens, with its formal borders, lawns, play areas, lake, and family-friendly café and shop are just 3 mins walk from The Quadrant.
