Tideswell boasts a range of local shops, a small supermarket, cafes, fish and chip shops, great pubs and its impressive Church - the 'Cathedral of the Peak', all within easy walking distance of the house. There are some excellent towns, villages and attractions within easy reach: Buxton with its famous Opera House, Bakewell, famed for its puddings, Castleton with its Blue John caverns, picturesque Great Hucklow where colourful para-gliders float by, and the many attractions of the Chatsworth Estate, to mention but a few.

Reviews

Cosy cottage but plenty big enough for 2 couples, a family of 4 and a dog! Clean, comfortable and great location in the middle of Tideswell. Straightforward communication and arrangements with owner. We had a great time, thank you.

Mrs S,

Jaret house is an extremely comfortable house in the heart of a brilliant village. You couldn't ask for a better location to explore the Peak District. Everyone in the village was friendly and the owner was excellent to deal with. Top marks from the whole family.

Miss W,

A spacious house in a lovely location

Mrs S,

We have had a wonderful week in Tideswell. The house was very clean, comfortable, with excellent facilities. It is a great location for walking and travelling around. Tideswell has everything you need. Shop, bakery and pubs too. It was our first visit to Derbyshire and I thought it was beautiful.

Mrs P,

You would be hard pushed to find a better location than Tideswell for basing youself for exploring some of the best parts of the Peak District. And the cottage its self is in the heart of this picturesque little Town. We thoroughly enjoy our week there, hiking, walking, cycling and visiting the beutiful countryside and historic towns and villages. We went to Bakewell, Buxton, Castleton, Hope, Edale, Eyam, and lots of the Dales and had a fanrastic time.

Mr B,

We had such a lovely stay at Jaret House! We had everything we needed and had easy access to everywhere we wanted to go. Would highly recommend!

Miss F,

A great location for exploring the central and southern Peak District. Tideswell is just big enough to have a choice of places to eat out but small enough to be an authentic Derbyshire village. The house itself is well fitted out with the bedrooms cleverly fitted with individual shower/bathrooms. We spent little time in the house which was tidy and superficially clean but thought it would benefit from an occasional deep clean. There were lots of Board games and a large TV; a music system would have enhanced the entertainment for those who spent more time in the house. But overall, the house was lovely and we would happily recommend it to anyone.

Mr W,

The cottage was not as clean as it could have been, it was very dusty and we had two people who had to use their inhalers while away. The photos are deceptive, they make the bedrooms look bigger than they are. One of the rooms has no cupboard to hand clothes and so we lived out of a suitcase the whole week.

Ms K,

We all really enjoyed our stay at Christmas. The only thing missing is a downstairs toilet and with younger children we felt the stairs would have been safer carpeted.

Mr H,

Really well appointed cottage and great location for Eyam, Mam Tor, Monsal Trail and local walks. We had a lovely bank holiday break!

Past Customer,

Location

Tideswell

Tideswell is one of the best villages in the Peak District because it really lives. Gathered around the ‘Cathedral of the Peaks’ church, it is a proper community with three great pubs, three cafes, a classy restaurant, village bakers and butchers, small Co-op supermarket and even two fish and chip shops. Our real favourite is the Welsh Rarebit in High Nelly’s café.

Walks radiate out from the village into the lovely Peak District countryside but what about jumping in the car to explore the Plague village of Eyam before climbing to the top of Great Hucklow Edge, where the Barrel Inn at Bretton will give you a wonderful welcome with its great food, beer and amazing views. Alternatively, set off from the Anglers Rest in Millers Dale following the footpath by the river until you get to leafy Water-cum-Jolly Dale, where only birdsong breaks the silence.

Chatsworth, Bakewell and the other well-known visitor attractions in the Peak District are close by and so is Victorian Buxton. The incredible Victorian Crescent, now a five-star hotel is not to be missed. The wonderfully restored Opera House that has shows to suit all tastes is another must. Go and experience the ‘Wisper’ in the Devonshire Dome. The lovely Pavilion Gardens create a peaceful backdrop. And make sure you visit the spooky Poole’s Cavern.

Local pubs – The George Inn, the Star Inn and the Horse and Jockey
