Location
BRASSINGTON
Brassington is a very picturesque village with a muddle of cottages tumbling down the hillside nestled in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. Close to the lovely Georgian market town of Ashbourne, as well as the historic lead mining town of Wirksworth, there are few better places to base your holiday. Best of all, the village has two great pubs. Ye Olde Gate Inn is a 17th century unspoilt village inn that has been named Britain’s cosiest pub. Alternatively, get a very warm welcome in the Miners Arms that does great food and fantastic beer.
If you enjoy the countryside, you might know that the Limestone Way that passes the village will take you out across the Peaks, while the nearby Tissington Trail is just great for walking or cycling. Set virtually on the shores of Carsington Water, Derbyshire’s inland sea, there is also easy access to wild water sports, birdwatching, cycle hire, an adventure playground, visitor centre, café and craft shops.
There is lots to explore in this southern part of the Peak District. Beautiful Dove Dale has its famous stepping stones across the river or there is Manifold Dale with its ‘vanishing’ waters. Tissington with its fine Jacobean Manor, Hartington with its great cheese shop or Crowdecote with its incredible views, are great local villages. You might even get as far as Alton Towers, just over in Staffordshire!
Local pubs – Ye Olde Gate Inn, the Miners Arms and the Knockerdown near Carsinton.
