Reviews

A lovely comfortable stay for two couples. Ann was lovely and welcomed us with bread eggs homemade jam and a bottle of wine. How kind. The house was an easy walk into town and a steep walk back! The wood burner was very effective. Beautiful view across the valley. Lots of places visit. Great central location.

Mrs B,

Lovely owner Made us cake and jam for arrival then left us alone. Beautiful cottage would stay again if in area. Gorgeous views and cosy log burner

Mrs G,

Lovely cottage located at the top of the hill, with great views overlooking the valley. Clean, tidy and we were made to feel welcomed with a lovely home made cake on arrival. Thanks

Mr H,

Lovely and unique property with history and character. Warm and cosy, with a spacious and thoughtfully laid out main bedroom. Great views and location with easy access and on property parking. Thoughtful and generous hosting from (fresh flowers, welcome goodies) we had a lovely time here.

Mr M,

Lovely cottage very well equipped & warm. Comfortable beds & very quiet & peaceful location. Friendly & warm welcome from the owner when we arrived. A very generous welcome pack

Miss J,

Box Tree Cottage is located close to local amenities in Matlock and enjoys great views over the town and country side. The owner proactively got in contact with us to answer any questions we may have had and confirmed the location of the keys. On arrival key supplies were available so we did not need to go to the shops immediately. We found the cottage to be very comfortable and comprehensive instructions for the cottage were available together with lots of guides and maps for the local area. Overall our stay at Box Tree Cottage worked out very well, providing an excellent base to visit the Peak District.

Mr N,

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was a quiet, private location with a lovely view from the terrace. The bedroom with a separate entrance was ideal for travelling with our 24 year old son and gave us privacy and independence when required. In addition, the owner was very helpful, friendly and left us a really good section of provisions and a lovely homemade cake.

Mr S,

A fabulous place to stay with a spectacular view! The cottage is wonderful, has everything you need and the welcome pack is the best. Ann is a lovely, friendly host.

Mrs W,

LOVELY COMFORTABLE COTTAGE WITH BEAUTIFUL COUNTRYSIDE VIEWS DESPITE BEING ON EDGE OF TOWN, THANKS TO BEING UP A STEEP HILL. VERY WELL-EQUIPPED AND IDEAL FOR US WITH MOTHER IN LAW AS THE LAYOUT GAVE US ALL PRIVACY AND SPACE. FRIENDLY, HELPFUL OWNER. MATLOCK IS A GOOD LOCATION FOR BAKEWELL, BUXTON AND THE PEAKS, SO WE AHD A GOOD MIX OF PRETTY TOWNS/VILLAGES, HISTORIC HOUSES AND UNSPOILT COUNTRYSIDE.

Mrs S,

Great accommodation although not a great location to walk back from Matlock as it’s on a very steep hill! Lovely to have home made cake and jam, eggs, bread, milk, butter and wine on arrival, meant we didn’t have to rush out to shop for breakfast the next day . Very comfortable and quiet cottage, thank you.

Mrs S,

Beautiful cottage and idyllic location. The owner welcomed us and was really lovely and friendly. The welcome basket with all the essentials and a few treats was really thoughtful and lovely.

Mrs M,

It is a lovely place to stay, but due to its age and the location in a hill it is somewhat humid and therefore prone to woodlice. The views and peace and quiet were to die for. Owners very friendly and accommodating

Mrs De J,

Location

MATLOCK

Matlock is a historic thriving tourist destination dating back to Victorian times when the railway reached the town and visitors used to come to take the ‘mild water cure’ in the many spa hotels. It still is very much on the tourist map today, being the ideal place from which to explore the many local attractions but also a place that really ‘lives’, with independent shops, a couple of supermarkets and Dale Road with its numerous pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Set in a cauldron of hills, there are lots of days out to be had close by. Matlock Bath has got to be on your list. A 2-penny ride on a tram at the National Tramway Museum will take you back in time. Peak Rail’s trains steam up the valley to give you another taste of the past. And then of course you can explore Sir Richard Arkwright’s Industrial Revolution village at the head of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Corridor.

Matlock is in the centre of everything, even when you look to the east towards Chesterfield, because this opens up another vista of attractions. Chesterfield itself with its colourful market square is worth a visit. Hardwick Hall, of Bess of Hardwick fame, is not much further. How about storming Bolsover Castle’s battlements or being one of the ‘Merry Men’ in Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest.

Local pubs - Duke of Wellington, 300 metres away, The Thorn Tree, Twenty Ten Bar and others in Matlock.
